Stretta® Therapy
Ready to Consult a GI Physician?
Find a ProviderWhat is Stretta therapy?
Stretta therapy is an excellent option for patients that have failed or are intolerant of drug therapy, offering an alternative to invasive surgery or foreign implants. It is a minimally invasive procedure that significantly reduces GERD symptoms, allowing a majority of patients to eliminate or significantly decrease the use of PPIs (Proton Pump Inhibitors). To learn more about Stretta therapy and how it works, schedule an appointment at GI Alliance with one of our GI physicians.
How does Stretta therapy work?
Stretta Therapy is an outpatient procedure performed by GI Alliance physicians in 60 minutes or less. The Stretta system delivers radiofrequency energy to the LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter), which regenerates the muscle tissue, resulting in improved function and fewer of the random relaxations that cause GERD symptoms. Because Stretta doesn’t alter the anatomy or introduce a foreign implant, it can be utilized in a variety of patient groups and doesn’t preclude other treatment options.
What are the advantages of Stretta?
Stretta therapy is a minimally invasive procedure that helps prevent acid reflux. Pervasive acid reflux or GERD can cause a range of symptoms and complications such as persistent heartburn, regurgitation, chest pain, difficulty swallowing, asthma, laryngitis, and tissue damage leading to Barrett’s esophagus or esophageal cancer.
Stretta therapy helps regenerate thicker muscle in your esophagus to prevent reflux. Your local GI Alliance team will be happy to provide further information about this minimally invasive GERD treatment option during a consultation.
What are the risks of Stretta?
There are a few possible risks when you use Stretta. Some of them can include:
- Adverse reaction to anesthesia
- Erosive esophagitis, or irritation of the throat from the Stretta tube
- Esophageal perforation, or injury to the throat from the Stretta tube
- Gastroparesis, or food remaining in the stomach too long
- Gas and bloating
