InterStim™ Therapy

Ready to Consult a GI Physician?

Find a Provider

InterStim therapy is an innovative treatment option for patients with bladder control problems and fecal incontinence. InterStim is FDA-approved and minimally invasive, allowing patients to experience a better quality of life and return to doing the things they love. This therapy targets the connection between the bladder/bowels and the brain. If you have questions about InterStim, please contact your local GI Alliance physician to learn more about this and other treatment options.

Candidates for InterStim therapy may suffer from one of the following conditions:

  • Overactive bladder
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Fecal incontinence

Prior to attempting InterStim therapy, your GI Alliance physician may attempt other methods of controlling your condition such as medication or physical therapy. Please speak to your GI Alliance physician about your options for treatment.

After an evaluation and consultation, a thin wire would be placed in your buttock where the nerves that control your bladder are. The wire would be connected to a device you would wear and operate under your clothes. The device would work by gently stimulating the sacral nerves, allowing patients to have fewer visits to the bathroom. If you are interested in learning more about how this therapy and device can help you spend less time in the bathroom or worrying about accidents, speak to your GI Alliance physician.

If you or a loved one struggles with urinary or fecal incontinence, then this innovative treatment option may be of some benefit to you. In order to spend less time in the bathroom or dealing with accidents, you can try InterStim therapy and experience relief from your troubling symptoms. InterStim allows patients the freedom to return to their favorite activities and improve their overall quality of life with a minimally invasive technique. To discuss this and other options for incontinence, please contact your GI Alliance physician.
