Find a ProviderWhat is InterStim therapy?
InterStim therapy is an innovative treatment option for patients with bladder control problems and fecal incontinence. InterStim is FDA-approved and minimally invasive, allowing patients to experience a better quality of life and return to doing the things they love. This therapy targets the connection between the bladder/bowels and the brain. If you have questions about InterStim, please contact your local GI Alliance physician to learn more about this and other treatment options.
Who are the candidates for InterStim therapy?
Candidates for InterStim therapy may suffer from one of the following conditions:
- Overactive bladder
- Urinary incontinence
- Fecal incontinence
Prior to attempting InterStim therapy, your GI Alliance physician may attempt other methods of controlling your condition such as medication or physical therapy. Please speak to your GI Alliance physician about your options for treatment.
How does InterStim therapy work?
After an evaluation and consultation, a thin wire would be placed in your buttock where the nerves that control your bladder are. The wire would be connected to a device you would wear and operate under your clothes. The device would work by gently stimulating the sacral nerves, allowing patients to have fewer visits to the bathroom. If you are interested in learning more about how this therapy and device can help you spend less time in the bathroom or worrying about accidents, speak to your GI Alliance physician.

Great staff and very good at taking care of their clients! I recommend this place to anyone
Their GI facility is very nice. The staff are very mannerly and skilled. I had an upper GI and was in and out before you could believe it. Dr Hughston explained the procedure slowly and in a language anyone can understand. I will go back to his facility next time I need a GI test or procedure. I am a very picky Master’s prepared RN and they were very good, and I was pleased with their care.
Dr. Mokhashi has an incredible depth of knowledge in gastroenterology. He takes the time to listen to my concerns and explains everything clearly. He has always shown genuine compassion and concern for my well-being. He is an exceptional doctor, and I am incredibly fortunate to be under his care.
Crystal is great! She always listens to what I have to say. We discuss my treatment options, instead of telling me "this is what we're doing ". She's patient, thorough and kind.
DR.O'KEEFE is a really good doctor. Him and his staff are very nice , kind, and informative. DR.O'KEEFE will listen to what you have going on . He will not blow you off. He tries to figure out what's wrong. His nurse practitioner Chelsea is just like him. You can't go wrong letting them be your doctor.
