What is InterStim therapy?
InterStim therapy is an innovative treatment option for patients with bladder control problems and fecal incontinence. InterStim is FDA-approved and minimally invasive, allowing patients to experience a better quality of life and return to doing the things they love. This therapy targets the connection between the bladder/bowels and the brain. If you have questions about InterStim, please contact your local GI Alliance physician to learn more about this and other treatment options.
Who are the candidates for InterStim therapy?
Candidates for InterStim therapy may suffer from one of the following conditions:
- Overactive bladder
- Urinary incontinence
- Fecal incontinence
Prior to attempting InterStim therapy, your GI Alliance physician may attempt other methods of controlling your condition such as medication or physical therapy. Please speak to your GI Alliance physician about your options for treatment.
How does InterStim therapy work?
After an evaluation and consultation, a thin wire would be placed in your buttock where the nerves that control your bladder are. The wire would be connected to a device you would wear and operate under your clothes. The device would work by gently stimulating the sacral nerves, allowing patients to have fewer visits to the bathroom. If you are interested in learning more about how this therapy and device can help you spend less time in the bathroom or worrying about accidents, speak to your GI Alliance physician.

Everyone there are so nice and helpful. I was in and out quickly. Everything was explained really well.
I've been seeing Dr Joseph for many years and incredibly happy with my care. I feel great and appreciate the attentiveness of him and his nurse, Shauna Sherman.
My experience was positive and professional and the follow-through by Dr. Woerlien and his staff was remarkable. I would not hesitate to recommend this office and Dr.
We really appreciate all the experience of Dr. Bown and those in the Endoscopy/Colonoscopy Surgical center
