Find a ProviderWhat is InterStim therapy?
InterStim therapy is an innovative treatment option for patients with bladder control problems and fecal incontinence. InterStim is FDA-approved and minimally invasive, allowing patients to experience a better quality of life and return to doing the things they love. This therapy targets the connection between the bladder/bowels and the brain. If you have questions about InterStim, please contact your local GI Alliance physician to learn more about this and other treatment options.
Who are the candidates for InterStim therapy?
Candidates for InterStim therapy may suffer from one of the following conditions:
- Overactive bladder
- Urinary incontinence
- Fecal incontinence
Prior to attempting InterStim therapy, your GI Alliance physician may attempt other methods of controlling your condition such as medication or physical therapy. Please speak to your GI Alliance physician about your options for treatment.
How does InterStim therapy work?
After an evaluation and consultation, a thin wire would be placed in your buttock where the nerves that control your bladder are. The wire would be connected to a device you would wear and operate under your clothes. The device would work by gently stimulating the sacral nerves, allowing patients to have fewer visits to the bathroom. If you are interested in learning more about how this therapy and device can help you spend less time in the bathroom or worrying about accidents, speak to your GI Alliance physician.

I have seen other doctors at this clinic in the last few years, but I feel much more comfortable with Dr. Hughston. He is easy to talk to and all about doing what he can to help with my gastro issues.
Very professional and thoughtful. Definitely recommend Dr. Mahajani and the staff.
Dr. Robertson actually spends time with you in the exam room. He is genuinely interested in your problems and your care. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Marquis is very helpful and professional and saved me over 30 dollars a month on my medication! Very much recommend!
He was adept and friendly, everyone was making sure that I was comfortable with the discussion, and they set up the actual procedure at a hospital nearby.
