The Orbera Intragastric Balloon is a weight loss aid for adults who have trouble losing weight with diet and exercise alone and who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 – 40. Please note that Orbera™ is only offered in our Baton Rouge, LA, locations and some of our Houston-area locations.

The Orbera Weight Loss System is a safe and effective nonsurgical weight loss system designed to provide effective, motivating results. The two-part program is FDA cleared and designed to achieve long-term weight loss by slowing the digestion of food and encouraging healthy portion control. On average, Orbera patients lose over three times more weight than with diet and exercise alone. For more information or to see if Orbera Managed Weight Loss is available in your area, please contact GI Alliance.

With the Orbera Weight Loss System, you can expect the weight to come off rapidly within the first three months of the program. The procedure, coupled with the nutritional program, provides you with the structure and support to be successful in achieving your weight loss goals. The adjustments to eating habits and lifestyle choices will greatly influence the results of the program.

The GI Alliance specialists who offer this service are dedicated to providing not only the medical expertise for the procedure but also the support and encouragement needed to be successful through every step of the program.

This nonsurgical weight loss procedure is performed by board-certified gastroenterologists, highly skilled in endoscopy procedures and protocols. While under a mild sedative, the thin and deflated Orbera balloon is placed into your stomach and then filled with saline until it’s about the size of a grapefruit. The procedure typically takes about 20 – 30 minutes — so you can go home the same day as the procedure.

At six months, the balloon is removed in the same way it was placed. Through a non-surgical procedure conducted under a mild sedative, it is deflated first and then removed.

At GI Alliance, we want you to reach your weight loss goals. But we know it's not always as easy as it seems. To help, some of our GI specialists offer the Orbera Weight Loss System for individuals with a BMI of 30 or over who are ready to commit to the lifestyle changes they need to lose weight once and for all. If you are interested in learning more about weight loss with Orbera, contact GI Alliance to find a clinician who offers the Orbera Managed Weight Loss System.

I'll start with this. The worst part of this experience is the prep. Dr. Cunningham agrees. That's what makes him incredible. His honesty is refreshing, and talking to him is easy. Just sitting down to chat is like being with an old friend. It's a shame I get to see him when it is time for the "Great Evac" followed by the Behind the Back movie production. He's a great guy, you should go see him. His staff is great, also. They make you feel at home.

Such a kind human. She really went out of her way to make me feel safe and cared for - something I have not consistently experienced in the past. The entire staff really cared for not just my physical well being but also my mental and emotional state which so often gets forgotten about in western medicine! I am SO grateful I have them to rely on.
