Theresa R. Maxwell, who was born and raised in the St. Joseph area, has worked as a nurse for the gastroenterology practice for more than 30 years. She makes her home in St. Joseph because of the friendly people, closeness to family and small town hospitality in a big city region. Maxwell chose a career in gastroenterology because of the opportunity to work in her certified field. She has remained with the practice because the physicians and team members truly care about patients, and their experience, knowledge and compassion are unmatched. Maxwell enjoys getting to know her patients and being able to provide one-on-one care with her full time and energy devoted to every encounter. Theresa earned a Bachelor of Science from the Research College of Nursing in 1984. She also earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)/Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in 2001 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Theresa earned specialty certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence in 1999 as well. Theresa maintains memberships in the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society, and the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), Honor Society of Nursing She is a national and international speaker in the ostomy field and was selected nurse researcher of the year in 2005 by . When not working with patients, Maxwell enjoys spending time with family.
