About Taryn Silverstein, D.O.
Dr. Taryn Silverstein is originally from Miami but was raised here in Wellington. She attended undergraduate school at Washington University in St. Louis where she obtained her degree in Anthropology and completed a pre-medical curriculum. During her junior year, she was lucky enough to study abroad in Sydney Australia, this was followed by a year moving across the southeastern US doing service projects with AmeriCorps NCCC. She then returned to South Fla to attend Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine and subsequently spent 7 years at the University of Massachusetts completing her training in internal medicine, serving as chief resident and completing her fellowship in gastroenterology. She is board certified in Gastroenterology.
Dr. Silverstein initially became interested in gastrointestinal diseases in childhood as her brother was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at young age. Her passion has only grown since that time and she continues to enjoy caring for patients with a variety of gastrointestinal disorders.
Dr. Silverstein is excited to be back home in Florida at Gastroenterology Associates of Florida and is thrilled to be raising her family in the same area where she grew up.
In her free time, Dr. Silverstein is interested in nutrition and yoga. She also loves to dance, paint, travel and spend time with her wonderful husband and two sons.

View LocationRequest AppointmentUpdate :Been in and out over the years, Dr. Silverstein did my routine colonoscopy, which was handled correctly and went well. Here's the issue, Dr. Silverstein is too busy, she needs another Doctor, possibly another front office personnel, and two PA's, one to replace Melissa who is far too stubborn and egotistical for my taste. I have been on a medication since 1985 for ulcerative colitis. I also travel out of town 4 days per week for my job. I ran out of the meds and asked Melissa to please renew the prescription. Melissa replied that I should have my primary send over my last Labs, CBC, which was done in October of 24. I requested them to be sent over to Dr.. Silverstein and Dr. Sharma's office said that was done, and gave me the date. I waited a week while traveling, called Dr. Silverstein's office and was now told I had to come in, which I agreed to do, but that I.was traveling for two weeks and only had a 48 hour window before I left again; nothing worked, Melissa dug her heals in and said no, schedule an appointment or I don't renew. I said I.would make an appointment but needed the meds, the answer again was no. So here's the real rub, for three years I have never had a meaningful conversation with Dr.. Silverstein, been all Melissa Mechler, her PA. So let me say this, Melissa is not a Dr. She is a PA, she did not take the same curriculum, the curriculum is very different. She doesn't refer back to Dr. Silverstein, and that's just not acceptable to me. I have left the practice for another in Pompano where I have been assured that I will go over my medical history with the Gastroenterologist, not the PA. There are far too many Doctors in South Florida hiding behind PA's, and I don't like it.
Amazing thanks!
So thankful I finally found a Gastroenterologist who listens, has compassion, and assisted me in developing a treatment plan that we both agree on.
