About Robert "Bobby" Klapheke, M.D.

Dr. Robert Klapheke is a board-certified gastroenterologist with advanced training in interventional endoscopy. He received his bachelor’s degree from Miami University and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he spent an additional year after graduation as an Instructor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. At the University of California San Diego, Dr. Klapheke completed his gastroenterology fellowship and interventional endoscopy preceptorship, attaining additional training in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and other advanced endoscopic techniques.

While at UCSD, he received the Excellent Consultant Award from the Department of Emergency Medicine and served on the Fellowship Operations and Graduate Medical Education Committees. His research areas of interest include interventional endoscopic ultrasound, gastrointestinal bleeding, polyp resection technique, and ergonomics.

An avid traveler and Spanish speaker, Dr. Klapheke has spent time in Ecuador, Peru, and Chile through medical brigade, externship, and research projects. He enjoys hiking, kayaking, drawing, and spending time with his wife and their admittedly overweight cat Jax.
