The prep for the procedure is where I think they could have done better. Although it turned out that my prep was adequate, I could have saved a bunch of stress if the instructions were more clear about what I should be expecting in detail to determine if my prep was going according to plan or not. And I wish the instructions had been more detailed about WHEN (ex: 5 hrs prior to have time to course correct before the 3hr pre-prep black out window) call if I didn't think it was going per plan. Google and Youtube and Image searching were helpful, but frustrating in their inconsistencies.
DETAILS ON PREP:
1) The office offered a prep-kit for $40 on the website. I got super helpful text messages that was timed correctly in sequence for my testing date that told me to order ingredients and offered me the link. It wasn't clear enough to me whether I could order ALL the prep ingredients myself or whether the $40 kit had something additional that I could not get over the counter. The kit contained Dulcolax tabs of 5mg each (2 doses of 2) and large Miralax jar. If that had been spelled out with more clarity, I could have gotten those myself for $20 or so without worrying that maybe I would be missing something, or that the kit contained something I couldn't get over the counter.
Not a huge complaint because the option was helpful and eliminated my having to think about it. It did also contain "complimentary" lemon jello box & chicken broth packets.
2) Instructions on how to prep 7 days out, 3 days out, 1 day out etc were clear. And perhaps optimized for my comfort, which I also appreciate (other sources online suggested much more aggressive and disruptive / uncomfortable prep).
3) There was also a patient advisor number offered in case I had questions. The line was answered and I was able to access them quickly (to ask if I needed to avoid even cooked tomatoes if I worried that they would have seeds). So all that was also a win. Adding the extension number to save the IVR brain power would have been a bonus, but the menu was fairly short, so no complaints.
4) Once I began to have the prep though, it felt a little too comfortable and I began to worry that the prep wasn't working. There were no instructions or help available on how to know if I was ready or doing it correctly & I wish there would have been. Of course there's YouTube and I have the internet, for example, the doc did say after I voiced my concern that the speed at which I chugged down the prep solution was key in flushing me out. But I was sipping more slowly since the instructions were not zooming out to say that the large volumes needed to be ingested quickly. I didn't understand the information given in the same way (8 ounces every 15 to 45mins until it's all gone).
5) I would have really liked for the instructions to let me know in detail what to expect: That I should expect to be passing liquid & that it should be clear and yellow. Of course I Googled and Youtube'd and Image searched, but some direction from the office would have saved me a lot of stress. So I felt a little bit left to my own devices to worry that I was too "cloudy" (a list of dignified words could have also helped on the instruction sheet).
5) I wish there were instructions to call 5 hours before the procedure in case I was worried, in order to have 2 hours to course correct before the 3hr pre-procedure black out window. Thanx to the internet, I called at the right time and my call was answered and re-assuring people let me know that I would get a call back (although I did not). I was stressing up until I could ask the doctor directly & he offered that I should have chugged the prep solution in exactly the way that I had not.

area of concern. He was very quick to alert my PCP regarding needed recommended follow up . A week later I had an appt with a surgeon. I felt very well cared for! Highly recommend this practice.
