About Michelle Ann Petro, M.D.

Michelle Petro, MD joined GI associates in 2005 and practices Gastroenterology from our GI Associates offices in Flowood and Madison.

Dr. Petro is a Jackson native and graduated as Valedictorian of Jackson Academy. She attended Vanderbilt University and graduated from Mississippi State University magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. Dr. Petro received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine (UMMC). She also completed both her Internal Medicine residency and her Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at UMMC.  Dr. Petro is board certified in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

She is active in research and has authored many publications.  Dr. Petro has an extensive list of professional appointments and many affiliations including American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association, Mississippi State Medical Association, and the Mississippi Gastroenterology Society. She has lectured in post-graduate courses including the American Association of Liver Diseases as well as continuing education programs for primary care physicians.

Dr. Petro is a second-generation physician with an innate sense of professionalism and concern for her patients’ health and well-being.

During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, and pursuing her longtime interests in wildlife observation and photography.  She loves to watch her two active children play sports. Dr. Petro actively supports various community and civic volunteer efforts and attends St. Andrew’s Cathedral.
