About Mark Douglas Porta Jr., M.D.
Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
I chose Gastroenterology because I enjoy the opportunity to interact and speak with patients on a daily basis. I believe this subspecialty provides both a medical and surgical approach to treatments. The procedural modalities available allow for both treatment and preventative therapies as well. I enjoy taking part in the evolution within the field of gastroenterology and look forward to seeing what the future holds.

No specific interest within GI at present.
Where did you study?
I went to Louisiana State University and graduated with a bachelors in basic science. I attended medical school at Louisiana State University in New Orleans from 2008-2012. I received my Internal Medicine training at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge from 2012-2015. I completed subspecialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Louisiana State University in Shreveport from 2015-2018.
What certifications do you hold?
Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
On my days off, I enjoy spending time with my wife, family, and friends. My passion outside the field of medicine is music. I have played electric and acoustic guitar for over 20 years and counting. I also enjoy playing golf and tennis.

Very informative visit
The Best. My hubby is a Veteran had stomach issues for a while Dr.Porta pinned point the problem..finally got the relief. His staff are the best as well..I would recommend him to family and friends.. keep up the great work Dr.Porta....

Everything was very nice and cordial. Was a very pleasant experience! I have nothing bad to say about this experience at all! Dr Porta filled me in after the procedure, wonderful Doctor as well as his team members!
