Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
I chose Gastroenterology because I enjoy the opportunity to interact and speak with patients on a daily basis. I believe this subspecialty provides both a medical and surgical approach to treatments. The procedural modalities available allow for both treatment and preventative therapies as well. I enjoy taking part in the evolution within the field of gastroenterology and look forward to seeing what the future holds.

No specific interest within GI at present.
Where did you study?
I went to Louisiana State University and graduated with a bachelors in basic science. I attended medical school at Louisiana State University in New Orleans from 2008-2012. I received my Internal Medicine training at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge from 2012-2015. I completed subspecialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Louisiana State University in Shreveport from 2015-2018.
What certifications do you hold?
Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
On my days off, I enjoy spending time with my wife, family, and friends. My passion outside the field of medicine is music. I have played electric and acoustic guitar for over 20 years and counting. I also enjoy playing golf and tennis.

I went to Dr. Porta for a second opinion after my primary care doc suggested gallbladder surgery and gave a referral to a surgeon.

Going to a doctor’s appointment can be nerve-racking, but Dr. Porta makes you feel at ease. He is kind and informative about why you are there.

I love the idea of him scanning through my med list and discovered in order for a certain drug to be helpful I should take it in the morning I feel better now after the change. I’ve been on this medication for years.

Dr. Porta and his team are amazing. Found out last fall that I have active celiac disease AND needed my gallbladder removed. From intake to follow ups and beyond, they've been there to help and it's been a LOT of help. I can't thank them enough!
Dr Porta is one of those few and far between Physicians that is just remarkable. I can not say enough about how great he has been with helping me with my medical issues. He is thorough, knowledgeable, courteous, and empathetic to your needs. I highly recomend him and I am so blessed to have found him.
