About Heather Branstetter, M.D.
Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
Gastroenterology is the perfect combination of clinical medicine and surgery. It allows me to use my brain to diagnose medical conditions and to use my hands to perform the procedures patients need.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
I enjoy the wide variety of disease seen in a general gastroenterology practice including esophageal disorders, ulcer disease, Barrett’s, biliary and colon problems. I love that I have the opportunity to see patients both in the clinic and in the hospital. I have a special interest in providing care to young adults and helping them transition from a pediatric to adult practice.
Where did you study?
I did my undergraduate training at The University of Arizona, where I was on the Women’s Swimming team all 4 years and was Co-Captain my senior year (Go Cats!). I graduated from medical school at The University of Louisville School of Medicine. My residency training was a dual Internal Medicine- Pediatrics program at The University of Minnesota. I practiced in Fairbanks, Alaska for 8 years before returning to Dallas to complete my Gastroenterology Fellowship at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. I am happy to now call Fort Worth my home.
What certifications do you hold?
Board Certified in Gastroenterology
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
My children and I love to travel and spend time with our family and friends. We spend a lot of time at sporting events – our own and watching college and professional teams play. My kids especially love the TCU football games. We also treasure the quiet weekends when we don’t have any scheduled activities.

Reviews
I actually got to talk with my gastroenterologist about my up and coming colonoscopy. I was able to discuss family history and concerns. So far I really like this office and feel very comfortable.
I’m a Stage IV colon cancer surviver. I really like Dr. Branstetter’s bedside manner and what I feel is genuine concern about my quality of life. I feel very comfortable and at peace in her care for me.
I had my first appointment last week and had to bring my 3 year old. I asked if he could come and without hesitation they said yes. At my appointment Dr Branstetter was so patient and informative. Both with my and my sons questions. She wasn’t rushed and really gave me her full attention during the appointment. Best doctor experience I’ve had!
Staff was great including Dr. Branstetter. Took great care of me, thanks!
