About Farid Abushamat, M.D.
Dr. Farid Abushamat is a board-certified gastroenterologist with additional fellowship training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy. He provides expert, personalized care for adults across the full spectrum of digestive and liver conditions, from acid reflux and abdominal pain to colon cancer screening, liver disease, and complex pancreaticobiliary disorders. He is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care that emphasizes minimally invasive solutions to support long-term health and well-being.
Dr. Abushamat earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Diego. He then completed both his gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy fellowships at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. During his training, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society, a distinction awarded to physicians who demonstrate excellence in clinical care, scholarship, and leadership. He published peer-reviewed research in areas including complex colon polyp resection, liver transplantation, contrast-enhanced imaging, and rare gastrointestinal diseases.
His clinical expertise includes pancreaticobiliary diseases, colorectal cancer screening, complex polyp removal, GERD, liver disease, and inflammatory bowel disease. In addition to general procedures like colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, he performs advanced techniques such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), cholangioscopy, pancreatoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with transluminal interventions, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), luminal stenting, balloon-assisted enteroscopy, ablation of Barrett’s esophagus, and endoscopic suturing (OverStitch), offering minimally invasive solutions for complex problems.
Known for his thoughtful, collaborative approach, Dr. Abushamat works closely with patients to create tailored treatment plans that prioritize comfort, trust, and long-term health. Whether helping someone navigate new digestive symptoms or managing an advanced condition, he is dedicated to guiding patients with clarity, expertise, and respect. Dr. Abushamat is fluent in English and speaks conversational Arabic.
