About Darren Spearman, M.D.
Dr. Darren Spearman joins Gastroenterology Consultants of San Antonio after 20 years of service in the United States Army. He is a cum laude graduate of Clemson University where he received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. After completing his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, he completed his internship and residency at Brooke Army Medical Center and a gastroenterology fellowship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
While in the Army, Dr. Spearman served as an Environmental Science Officer at the Army Public Health Command which ignited his passion for preventive medicine and his love of science. In addition to his interest in overall digestive health, Dr Spearman has a special interest in colon cancer screening and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). During his time at Brooke Army Medical Center, he served as Primary Investigator for several IBD medication trials.
Although serving as a gastroenterologist in the US Army was both a privilege and an honor for Dr. Spearman, he looks forward to the opportunity to establish long term commitments and relationships with his patients at GCSA. Dr. Spearman is a married father of three young children and while not seeing patients, he enjoys spending time with his family, scuba diving, running and cheering for his favorite college football team – the Clemson Tigers.
Dr. Spearman is board certified in gastroenterology and is accepting new patients at our Northeast office.
“I’m passionate about making a difference in someone’s life, which has a different meaning for every patient I meet. One day may afford an opportunity to remove a pre-cancerous polyp in one patient, while a chance to simply listen and offer advice or reassurance may be therapeutic for another patient.”

Reviews
Dr Spearman was very personable and took his time to explain everything to me. I didn't feel rushed or dismissed in any way. He was recommended to me from multiple friends and family.
Dr. Spearman and his staff were very professional, attentive and easy to talk to. They made the office visit very comfortable and took the time to explain all procedures and expectations of myself as the patient so that I will be prepared for my colonoscopy. I highly recommend Dr. Spearman!
Super friendly staff at check in. Dr Spearman was amazing and feel my health was a priority and assisted us in a comprehensive plan of action. I felt very confident and pleased after leaving my appt.
This was my first visit with Dr Spearman. My previous doctor retired so I was given Dr Spearman as my doctor. I was very pleased with the way he answered my questions. He referred me to see another Gastroenterologist who could better deal with the problem I have been experiencing. Everyone in the clinic was very pleasant and friendly. This is a very nice and well kept and clean inside. Would recommend Dr Spearman to anyone needed a new Gastroenterologist.
Had my first appointment with Dr. Spearman. Didn't take not more then 10 min. To be called in for the visit. Dr. Spearman was very kind and so was the staff. He explained everything to me about my test and lab work and answered all my questions or concerns with compation. He even gave me a gentle hug. Don't worry I'm an old lady.
