About Darren Spearman, M.D.

Dr. Darren Spearman joins Gastroenterology Consultants of San Antonio after 20 years of service in the United States Army. He is a cum laude graduate of Clemson University where he received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. After completing his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, he completed his internship and residency at Brooke Army Medical Center and a gastroenterology fellowship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

While in the Army, Dr. Spearman served as an Environmental Science Officer at the Army Public Health Command which ignited his passion for preventive medicine and his love of science. In addition to his interest in overall digestive health, Dr Spearman has a special interest in colon cancer screening and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). During his time at Brooke Army Medical Center, he served as Primary Investigator for several IBD medication trials.

Although serving as a gastroenterologist in the US Army was both a privilege and an honor for Dr. Spearman, he looks forward to the opportunity to establish long term commitments and relationships with his patients at GCSA. Dr. Spearman is a married father of three young children and while not seeing patients, he enjoys spending time with his family, scuba diving, running and cheering for his favorite college football team – the Clemson Tigers.
Dr. Spearman is board certified in gastroenterology and is accepting new patients at our Northeast office.

“I’m passionate about making a difference in someone’s life, which has a different meaning for every patient I meet. One day may afford an opportunity to remove a pre-cancerous polyp in one patient, while a chance to simply listen and offer advice or reassurance may be therapeutic for another patient.”

Reviews

Staff was very professional. The Dr was willing to lessen to what I was telling him and not dismiss what I was saying. I can't wait to see how this plays out.

My appointment was at 7:30, I was in my room at 7:32 and the doctor was in at 7:35. Moved very quickly but I didn’t feel rushed and Dr. Spearman took the time to listen to my concerns. Will definitely be back!

Dr Spearman asked questions. He is very knowledgeable. He scheduled an appointment to have procedure done the next week. Since I was driving from Corpus scheduled for 11am so I could make it a one day trip. Got there early and was in early and done.

Well, we got there early. Waited outside in the waiting area. Then got escorted in. Waited in the inside waiting room. Was finally called to go get "dressed" and wait for drs to come. Once they came to talk to us and check the records things went fast. Even the checkout. All in all, things went well Drs and nurses were very kind and through. Very professional.
