Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
I have always been amazed by the human body and its complexity, especially the gastrointestinal system. During my medical training I was exposed early to the specialty and was always impressed by the ability of gastroenterologist to not only medically treat disorders but also perform lifesaving procedures. The opportunity to develop a connection with a patient and to have different tools to treat them is the reason why I choose this specialty.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
I have a special interest in liver disorders such as autoimmune hepatitis, PBC/PSC, Non-alcoholic Fatty liver Disease (NAFLD) and overall management of patients with cirrhosis.
Do you fluently speak any other languages in addition to English?
Spanish
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
We enjoy spending time outdoor, visiting museums and movie nights. When I have some free time, I enjoy going for a run, playing golf and work on my classic Ford Mustang.
Awards and Accreditation:
I started my gastroenterology career in the academic setting and one of my biggest honors was to be selected as the Associate Program Director of the Gastroenterology Fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center. During this time, I was recognized as the Gastroenterology Staff of the year in 2017 and with the You Make a Difference Award for quality of care in 2019. During my training I received the Fellowship to Leadership Award, the John Carpenter Outstanding Research award and the Commander’s award for Primary Care Research Publication.

Dr. Morales was very informative and knowledgeable about my situation and simplified what my solutions were to help with my concerns. He offered step by step guidance on how he wanted me to proceed with my daily routine and how to adjust certain aspects of my diet. Overall, he was very supportive on what would work best for me.
Dr. Morales did not keep me waiting. He was friendly, easy to talk with, explained the procedure, and patient in answering my questions. All of the staff here were friendly.
