About Alejandro Pruitt, M.D.

Dr. Pruitt joined our practice in 2006 after serving for over 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. He spent his last 13 years at Wilford Hall Medical Center, where he was a key faculty member responsible for the training of over 30 gastroenterologists during his tenure. Dr. Pruitt enjoys all aspects of gastroenterology, but he has a special interest in esophageal pancreatic, and biliary diseases, as well as advanced therapeutic endoscopy, performing over 1000 advanced procedures annually on patients referred from throughout south Texas. He has expertise in endoluminal stenting for the palliation of obstructing tumors or repair of leaks and fistulas, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for the removal of early esophageal and gastric tumors, radiofrequency ablation of Barrett’s esophagus (HALO), and complex biliary and pancreatic endoscopy (ERCP) to include Spyglass with EHL, sphincter of Oddi manometry, and ampullectomy. He is also highly regarded for his radial and linear endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) skills offering tumor staging, tumor targeting for radiosurgery, and palliation of abdominal cancer pain with celiac neurolysis. Dr Pruitt is active in several professional organizations, and he has continued to teach gastroenterology fellows advanced endoscopy skills in the private practice setting. He is an active member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and participates in several outreach programs with his wife, Kimberly, and their children.

Recently I found the need for a gastroenterologist due to some genetic "gifts" from my family. Since Dr Pruitt performed my routine colonoscopy about 5 years ago I decided to make my appointment with him. Back then I didn't get to know him very well but was very pleased with the outcome. Fast forward to my appointment. I HIT THE JACKPOT with Dr Pruitt. Once I got to know him during our appointment I became more and more confident that I made a great choice. Dr Pruitt is outstanding. His personality is engaging. He's a real gentleman. He is able to isolate the issues and get to the point very quickly. He really knows his business. By the time I left my visit were were well on the way to getting me "fixed." Next, he performed both and upper GI procedure and colonoscopy on me. Rarely have I been in an organization as organized as this practice was. The whole staff was courteous, attentive, and very professional. I can't say enough good things about Dr Pruitt and his staff. I highly recommend Dr Pruitt. His ability to diagnose and fix what ails you is second to none. I feel so much better since he's helped me. Thank you Dr Pruitt and thank you to all your staff. Best Regards. I hope all our future visits are simply routine.... :) Franklin Mullin

Doctor Pruitt and his staff were great. The office was extremely helpful for the moment we arrived and up to discharge. The nursing staff made the visit relaxing and comfortable providing simple and clear information which was helpful throughout the entire procedure. They explained the process prior to performing all procedures to ensure information was clear and understood before anything was done. This was one of the simplest procedure From start to finish with an extremely professional group, thanks for making this procedure more comfortable for me to complete.
