After nearly a decade and a half as a gastroenterologist, I’ve learned that listening carefully is every bit as essential to helping my patients as maintaining the highest level of skill and expertise and adhering to the most rigid ethical standards. Yet, I believe it’s equally essential to be able to look a person in the eye and tell him or her that I will do my best to help them.
